Jared's Favorite Albums of 2007

2007 is in the books as the best year for music ever, don't argue with me, you have no idea what you're talking about. 1998? ninety-eight ninety-schmate. 1969? sixty-nine sixty-schmine. 1976? You're a big idiot. Maybe its because I'm in a good place in my life, maybe its because I did MadMad research on music, maybe its because music is more accessible, or maybe, just maybe 2007 was the best year for music ever. Listen to each of these albums 3 times straight through and then try to argue with me.

Here they are, my favorite albums of 2007, starting at the top.
  1. Of Montreal-Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer This Album makes me want to dance, but I don't dance so i just nod my head in approval. An amazing album from start to finish, including the nearly 12 minute song stuck in the middle. Brilliant.
  2. Radiohead-In Rainbows I had trouble picking just one song for my best of 2007 list, at least five different songs could have gone on there from this album. I just don't see how this band could get any better.
  3. Menomena-Friend And Foe I listened to this album for about 2 months straight, I just couldn't put it down.
  4. Arcade Fire-Neon Bible This album came with high expectations and I wasn't a bit let down. This is the album I hoped they would make. Beautiful, layered, politically tinged songs.
  5. The National-Boxer If I were to compile a Best albums of 2007 in the year 2015, I would not be surprised if it read like this: 1.) Radiohead 2.)The National 3.) Arcade Fire 4.) Of Montreal. This album is growing on me.
  6. Wilco-Sky Blue Sky To paraphrase Jeff Tweedy, "why doesn't anyone just sing anymore". I ask, why doesn't anyone just listen anymore?
  7. Olof Arnalds-Vid og Vid What the heck is going on in Iceland anyway, do they not have anything better to do that sit around and make beautiful music?
  8. Sunset Rubdown-Random Spirit Lover A 12 song concept album destined to be performed at a rennaisance fair.
  9. Beirut-Flying Cub Cup Beirut was on my best of list last year also, this kid is only 21, wow.
  10. Okkervil River-The Stage Names I bought this album as an impulse buy, it was my best impulse buy all year(sorry troll bobble-head pen, you're a close second).
  11. Feist-The Reminder Diverse
  12. Spoon-GaGaGaGaGa Spoon is great, but the music doesn't grab me like it used to.
  13. Deerhoof-Friend Oppurtunity How could they follow up one of my favorite albums ever (The Runners Four) without letting me down? They couldn't, but this album is still good.
  14. Sharon Jones-100 Days, 100 Nights I don't own this album, but I've loved every song I've heard off of it.

What about The Shins latest 'Wincing The Night Away?' And you're so right about Radiohead. They blow my mind.
